Estuary Players was formed in 1977 for a production of T S Eliot’s “Murder in the Cathedral”. Since then, the company has established a reputation for the sheer variety of its repertoire. We have tackled powerful drama and let our hair down in outrageous farce, and gone from mediaeval mystery play to contemporary writing. Staging has also been varied, including promenade productions, theatre in the round and open-air Shakespeare as well as proscenium-arch plays.
We are fortunate in having a good number of experienced directors within the company, as well as being able to make use of the talents of occasional guest directors. We also have several accomplished writers, so have been able to develop and stage new work.
We normally stage two productions per year, one in May and the other in November. Our natural home is Topsham's Matthews Hall, but we have also performed in Exeter's Barnfield and Northcott Theatres. Open air productions are not unheard of (but rare).
As we do not have any premises of our own there are no regular meetings throughout the year. The social side centres around the current production, if there is one, interspersed with social nights at the Globe Hotel's Malt House.
We are always on the lookout for new members, whatever their ages and talents. Anyone interested in joining should contact the Secretary for further details.
